Located on the shores of Lake Tekapo, amongst the natural beauty of the lake and the alpines, the Church of the Good Shepherd is one of New Zealand’s iconic photo locations.
Opened in 1935, the Church of the Good Shepherd was built to the glory of God and as a memorial to the pioneers of the Mackenzie Country.
This old-fashioned gorgeous and elegant church blends perfectly with the natural scenery around it and is arguably one of the most photographed churches in New Zealand.
This beautiful church sits in front of the blue lake and surrounded by the alpines during the day; and shines under the stars during the night. Lake Tekapo is also famous for its night star gazing spot.
Note:
Due to the restoration of natural landscape of the site, vehicles will not be permitted in the church car park from March 2020. Hence, visitors are encouraged to park on the village side of the footbridge.
